Ad's timing poor

I would like to say that I thought it was very insensitive of the IDS to print the ad written by David Horowitz two days after the announcement of Gwen Paulk's death. Some of my elders spend their whole lifetimes at institutions like IU to ensure that the misinformed are educated on the true history of African Americans and also to stimulate debate that excites intelligent thinking and opinion. The IDS did not take this into consideration when they printed the full-page ad/endorsement.\nIn response to David Horowitz's ad on Friday … My ancestors and peers have been maimed, raped, assaulted, emasculated, lynched, stripped of their culture, dignity and pride and every other horrible thing you can think of, yet we still hold on to ideas that African Americans "ain't had it that bad." I will not thank America for that! \nHere in the 21st century we have third world poverty in black and minority neighborhoods, lack of jobs and poor funding for school systems which lead to lack of education. Without proper education, some minority men and women cannot obtain jobs that will provide the necessary income needed to support a family. Crime becomes an option and jails become our new homes. I said all of this to say that America ensures that White America is taken care of. How often do you read in a newspaper, "White teen male killed by black police officer, police officer suspended with pay?" \nYou won't hear about that because the government and the majority will not allow that to happen. \nHorowitz's ad is a stern reminder of the idiotic and ungodly thinking that is still prominent in American consciousness. However, my ultimate concern is the consciousness of not only African Americans, but of all original people here in the wilderness of North America. Horowitz did his job of inciting anger in all of us, but what we do with this energy is up to us. We should focus our energy on trying to gain more public funds for our local schools, keeping drugs out of our communities, promoting self and community love and utilizing our rights as citizens. \nPeace.
