Spring fever

All the signs of spring were popping up around campus Wednesday. Little 500 bike teams took long rides around Bloomington. Classes met by the Jordan River. The front lawns of fraternity houses were lined with students playing football.\nThe temperature reached the 60s Wednesday, sending students outside.\nThe College Mentors Program took the 60 Fairview Elementary School students it mentors weekly to the Jordan River for some fun. \nIt was ROTC day for the mentors and their students, mentor Courtney Bulger, a sophomore, said. The Fairview students had the chance to cross the Jordan River on a rope bridge set up by the ROTC members. \nAlthough some of the children said they were scared at first, they all ended up laughing their way across the bridge with the help of the ROTC members. \nCodey Lane, 8, Taylor Abrams, 6, and Cheyanne Dickens, 9, said they were excited about their activity. \n"I wasn't scared at all," said Lane, who participated in the program and the ROTC day last year.\n All three children beamed with excitement when asked about the day's events, as did the mentors.\n"I think it's important to be a positive role model for children in today's society," Bulger said.\nSophomore Lauren Moore, junior Patrick Roe and junior Jessi Spears were allowed to spend their physiology discussion section in the meadow by Woodburn Hall. Their class was spread across the lawn studying homework. \nRoe was happy they got to work outside because "it keeps my tan going." And Moore said the light to study was better than in Woodburn Hall.
