Activist group wrong to protest at recruiting event

I would like to show my anger and disgust for the NO SWEAT! activism group for protesting at Thursday's Marketing Career Fair. I think it's completely wrong and unethical for any organization to pass out fliers and demonstrate against a program that helps find IU students jobs. I see this as nothing short of a terrorist act against the hard-working marketing majors of the Kelley School of Business.\nOf course, I understand some of the companies represented at the career fair might have questionable labor standards, and NO SWEAT! has every right to protest against them. However, it is an absolute hypocrisy for an organization whose mission is to improve global labor conditions to prevent students from earning employment after their schooling. The representatives for the fair's companies were mostly marketing majors who are just out of college. These people are in no way responsible for the labor standards their employers might or might not use. IU students work very hard for their education and deserve every possible opportunity to earn employment after their days in Bloomington. This opportunity should not be interfered with in any way by any one group or person. Many students at IU are taking loans or working during school to help pay for their education. This effort along with the desire to search for a career deserves and demands the respect of the entire student body.\nIn the future, I hope NO SWEAT! will use more professional ways to support its cause. Instead of tampering with a recruiting event, NO SWEAT! could write the CEOs and boards of directors of companies, their elected officials and maybe even vote for a change. \nUntil then, I encourage all IU students not to join NO SWEAT! until they pledge not to hinder employment opportunities for students. Also, the IU Student Association and the IU administration should take steps to ensure that recruiters feel safe and welcome in Bloomington to meet and examine students. We students work too hard and accomplish too much to be embarrassed and have our chances squandered by people who do not protest with class and dignity.\nBrian Flueckiger\nJunior
