City introduces new e-mail service

Mayor John Fernandez and other city officials have worked to implement a new city e-mail service, Newsflash, to better keep residents informed of city happenings. Introduced Aug. 9, Newsflash allows subscribers to receive official media news releases via e-mail. \nIn the 23 days since its start, roughly 50 people have subscribed to Newsflash, said Michael Chui, Bloomington's chief information officer. \nChui said that while this might seen like a low number, the service has not been in operation very long and many people have yet to hear about Newsflash.\n"It's a very early preliminary number and we expect that it will increase as more people hear about it," he said.\nChui also said that a Newsflash subscription would be beneficial to students that are interested in city news and what goes on in the community.\n"I think certainly students are an important part of the community and those that are interested in the city government and how it effects the community, as well as students in particular, might be interested in what happens here," Chui said.\nNewsflash can be viewed at http://www.city.bloomington.in.us and then clicking on Newsflash for further directions.
