Bloomington man arrested on charges of rape, strangulation

Jerald Honeycutt, 34, of Bloomington, was arrested Monday on charges of rape, burglary, intimidation, confinement and strangulation, according to a press release issued Monday by the Bloomington Police Department.

These crimes were committed on June 14 at the victim's residence on the south side of Bloomington near Bloomington High School South, according to BPD Lt. Brad Seifers.

Honeycutt was identified as a suspect after evidence found at the scene connected him to the crime. Honeycutt's prior involvement with the police allowed them to identify him as a suspect, Seifers said.

Bloomington police completed an analysis of DNA samples found at the crime scene.

After police completed a probable cause affidavit, a search warrant was issued for Honeycutt's DNA. Honeycutt was then arrested once the DNA sample he provided police was found to match the DNA at the scene.

Seifers said Honeycutt remains in jail awaiting trial as of Tuesday afternoon.
