Ewald named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

For the second time in his career, senior kicker Mitch Ewald has earned Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Ewald was named Special Teams Player of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on Monday.

On Saturday against Michigan, Ewald kicked the first 50-yard field goal of his career. It was the 18th 50-yard field goal in school history and the first since 2002.

Ewald also added a 23-yard field goal and five extra points against the Wolverines.

On the season, Ewald is a perfect 5-5 on field goals and 36-36 on extra points.

Ewald last won Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 29, 2010.

On Saturday, Ewald also become IU’s all-time leader in made field goals for his career. He also tops the IU record books in career field goal percentage (81.7 percent), extra points and total kicker points.
