“The North” by Stars was a disappointment. Their sixth album, “The North” sounds strikingly similar in quality and sound to the Canadian indie pop band’s 2005 release “Set Yourself on Fire.” The album starts out powerfully with “The Theory of Relativity” but loses its strength with the slow-paced and immemorable tracks on the rest of the album.
Even though it is not their best release, “The North” is an incredibly relaxing listen. The title track of the album may be one of the quietest songs, but it is well written and easily one of the best. The five—piece band incorporates synthesizers in this album more than their others but stays true to their roots with the mix of male and female vocals.
Overall, “The North” is mediocre, misguided and stagnant in its sound and direction.
