If one needs numbers calculated, algorithms manipulated or programs stipulated, the technology exists to accomplish it.

NEW YORK -- New fears of terrorism sent stock markets tumbling around the world Monday and extended Wall Street's selloff into a second week. U.S. investors reacted to market declines in Japan and Europe following reports that the al Qaeda terrorist network had claimed responsibility for weekend attacks in Turkey and named Japan and other U.S. allies as potential targets.

NEW YORK -- This isn't the time for consumers to lose their holiday spirit. The economy needs ho-ho-ho, not ho-hum. All eyes this Christmas won't just be on what toy turns out to be the year's biggest hit. As much focus, at least on the part of economists and investors, will go to how much consumers actually spend on holiday gifts.

Wireless companies are expected to see a revenue increase following a Nov. 24 deadline to allow consumers to keep their number if they pick up a new service. Local Number Portability (LNP) is a concept the FCC mandated in 1996 and made to include wireless phone numbers in 1997.

A-Rod beats Delgado, Posada for MVP

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez became the second player from a last-place team to win a Most Valuable Player award, then confirmed that the Texas Rangers have approached him about a possible trade. "Management has approached me with a situation and some choices, and I'm just going to keep my doors open right now," Rodriguez said Monday from Mexico during a telephone conference call. Rodriguez received 242 points for the American League award in voting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Toronto first baseman Carlos Delgado was second with 210 points, followed by New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada with 194.

Team signs four recruits

The IU women's volleyball team announced Monday that four high school seniors have signed letters of intent to attend IU beginning in the fall of 2004. IU coach Katie Weismiller will welcome Gabrielle Allison (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine), Lauren Ditteon (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo), Annie Moddrell (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg Community) and Christine Nilles (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) to Bloomington.

Champagne corks were popped in south Florida yesterday afternoon as the Cincinnati Bengals upset the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs and ensured the 1972 Miami Dolphins would remain the last and only undefeated NFL team. Hoosiers close season with series of wins

The Hoosiers headed up to Ann Arbor, Mich., this past weekend to participate in the Big Ten Singles Championships, in which every player was able to pick up at least one victory, and one was able to win a bracket.

Grabavoy, Moor to join National Team

Yesterday was a bittersweet day for the Hoosiers in finding out that they will begin their chase for the College Cup as the No. 8 seed beginning next Wednesday in Bloomington, but will have to do so without All-American Ned Grabavoy and sophomore defender Drew Moor. Both players were selected and will join the U20 National Team in representing the United States at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates from Nov. 27 through Dec. 19.
