Indiana treasurer stands by fight about Chrysler plan

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock’s failed quest to stop Chrysler’s bankruptcy proceedings will cost state taxpayers $2 million in legal fees, but he has no regrets about what some saw as a foolishly impractical effort.

WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle inside the crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, gravely wounding a security guard before two other officers returned fire. The assailant and his victim were both hospitalized. The security guard later died.

New, again?For longtime Taking Back Sunday fans, the title of the act’s new album has multiple meanings. Near breakups and member departures are no longer news. After songwriter-guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the band in 2003, Fred Mascherino and Matt Rubano replaced them for two albums.

IU’s Old Crescent is covered with reminders of the University’s past and present, from the statue of Herman B Wells to the Rose Well House. A new memorial was added Wednesday, putting a permanent monument in place to retiring Dean of Students Dick McKaig.

Elvis Costello explores his American roots with “Sugar, Profane and Sugarcane,” the legend’s staggering 36th studio release. Given that the album was recorded in Nashville with T-Bone Burnett, it’s no surprise the banjo, dobro and fiddle can be heard on many of the tracks powered by Costello’s southern drawl.

Parking discount offered to green car owners

Arnett’s draft stock soared after a senior season that saw him notch a 12-2 record with a 2.50 ERA. His long 6-5 frame and athleticism tantalized scouts, vaulting him into the first round.

Five Hoosiers, Eric Arnett, Josh Phegley, Matt Bashore, Evan Crawford and Kipp Schutz, were all picked in the MLB draft Tuesday through Wednesday. Arnett, Phegley and Bashore were all Top-50 recruits.
