IU junior Derek Drouin cleared a height of 2.31 meters to finish first in the event and become the only ever Hoosier high-jumper to qualify for the Olympics.

Four Hoosiers move on in Olympic Trials

A quartet of IU track and field athletes moved one step closer to London on Thursday, as Andy Bayer and John Jefferson advanced to the semifinals in the 1,500-meter race, Aarik Wilson qualified for the triple jump finals and Tiffany Howard earned a spot in the shot put finals in Eugene, Ore.

Bloomington under excessive heat advisory until 8 p.m. Friday

Most of central Indiana, including Monroe County and Bloomington, is under an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service until 8 p.m. Friday. The National Weather service indicated that temperatures could reach record levels not reached since the 1930s.

Hesen falls short of Olympic berth

Indiana University graduate and 2008 NCAA Champion Ben Hesen came up just short of making the U.S. Olympic team, finishing fourth in the 100-meter backstroke finals Wednesday at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.
