Offense sputters, loses to Notre Dame

·

The smatterings of boos and cat-calls reigned down at Assembly Hall just as often as the Hoosiers' missed shots as IU fell 55-45 to Notre Dame Wednesday. IU only shot 30.2 percent from the field as Notre Dame's defense, which often featured a 2-3 zone, kept the Hoosiers frustrated.

THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON DRUGS

·

The word on the street is that there's a drug that can transform even the biggest bum into a studying machine. Without a legal prescription, you can obtain it only if you know the right people. Its market is not unlike that of underground marijuana, and it is considered by some the academic steroid.

Brown County square dance club carries on tradition

·

The square-dancing "Bucks and Does" of Nashville, Ind. perk up their ears, and raise their tails when they hear the sound of the music they love. The music starts at 7 p.m. every Wednesday night when Joe De Wees' feet trot around the linoleum floor of the Brown County Historical Society. He and his wife Amelia De Wees are dancing, along with 50 other people, in tandem, with a caller shouting instructions to him and the rest of the dance floor. As he glides across the tile, his black, thick soled shoes have the ease and limberness of Fred Astaire. You can see his 35-plus years of experience clearly.

An architectural future

·

Look at a large hole in the ground and picture a towering structure composed of limestone and genius. Look at an old neighborhood and some buildings that have seen better days and picture the IU students of 2020 hustling to their classes in the new technological hub of campus.

Local breweries set separate goals, cater to different crowds

·

It's tough to distinguish the small post-lunch crowd from employees on the clock at Upland Brewing Co., as both sets mingle around the bar swapping stories, gossiping and discussing beer. The customers are all on a first name basis with those behind the bar, contributing to the local feeling of the restaurant and brewery. The food is hot, the beer is cold, and the place has an overall feeling of community.
