I have chosen a title for my column called "a little bit of sechel," meaning a little bit of common sense. Perhaps it's a Jewish thing, or perhaps it's that I tend to see the world in a different way than most people (well, all people, since I am the only one of me).

Hoosiers fire it up in coach's memory

The Hoosiers fired it up for assistant coach Pete Schmidt, who passed away Friday, with a victory over Iowa. Thursday, when the team was told Schmidt had a short time to live, senior Jerry Dorsey, among many other players, found the game of football to be the least of their concerns.

Women's golf team places 7th of 16 teams

The women's golf team faced a busy three days of golf and a full plate of familiar foes this past weekend at the Northern Invitational in Minneapolis. Going into the tournament, the invitational appeared to be a good early season indication of where the Hoosiers stand in the Big Ten, since every conference squad was present.

'Hill people' celebrate at Bean Blossom

Come on hill people, get on your feets. It's Saturday night in the hills, and we're coming to getcha'" proclaimed Gene Deer of the Gene Deer Band just before lighting off with some down-home fire-breathing Chicago Blues at the second annual Bean Blossom Blues Festival last weekend.

Mustard's offers 'best burgers in town'

The menu at Mustard's claims Colonel Mustard has a long history at IU, beginning in 1938 as an athletic freshman. This IU connection is evident throughout the restaurant, which displays University sports memorabilia on every available wall surface. Even the table tents were displayed in baseball cases.
