The torn denim swung lazily in the wind and left a gaping hole where there once had been a back pocket revealing light gray boxer briefs. "There's my hiney," said BloomingKids mentor and IU senior Matt McGovren, examining the sudden change to his faded jeans as his "little buddy" Jared, a second grader, laughed uncontrollably.

Wright named second team Big Ten

Three members of the men's basketball team received All-Big Ten awards Tuesday. Sophomore guard Bracey Wright was named to the second team by both the coaches and the media. He was third in the league in scoring at 18.7 points per game. He needs just 10 points to join the 1,000-point club at IU. Senior forward A.J. Moye was named an honorable mention by the media. The 6-foot-3 Moye led the Hoosiers in rebounding at 6.2 per game, eighth in the league.

Borden family appeals to Council

The family of James L. Borden Sr. asked the Monroe County Council Tuesday to work to ban taser guns or at least review the police force's use of them. While the family is still seeking answers in Borden's death, its current focus is the future safety of the community.

IU worker laid off after 32 years

Thirty-two years, one job, one employer, one year before retirement. While former IU Materials Management employee Barney Corder thought he was only one year away from receiving the proverbial golden watch, he received something else -- a pink slip. "I guess working here for 32 years doesn't count for anything anymore," he said.

The committee that will decide the fate of the IU Student Association-sponsored college readership program heard arguments from each of the involved newspapers and on-campus groups opposing the program Tuesday afternoon.

Court hears Big Red appeal

The Student Body Supreme Court heard arguments from the Big Red and Crimson tickets Tuesday night as to whether the ruling of the IU Student Association Elections Commission should be upheld, giving Crimson the election victory, or overturned, re-instating Big Red as the official winner.

Students present issues in mock presidential debate

The Frangipani Room in the Indiana Memorial Union was filled with unusually strong words for two-and-a-half hours Tuesday night. Representatives from the IU College Democrats, the IU College Republicans and the Neo-Conservatives debated issues pertinent to the 2004 presidential elections in an event sponsored by the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society.

E-Z Money beats Acacia 'A' for Div. I title

After almost seven weeks of group- and single-elimination, winner-take-all tournament play, the 2004 intramural basketball season has finally crowned its champions. Independent team E-Z Money and fraternity team Acacia 'A' squared off in the men's Division I championship game Sunday at Assembly Hall.

IU serves against rival Kentucky

After taking a hiatus from the non-conference schedule to take on Big Ten foe Northwestern, the Hoosiers resume non-Big Ten play searching for a victory against border rival No. 15 Kentucky at 2 p.m. today in Lexington. This will be the start of a three-match road trip for IU, which will continue down in Tampa, Fla., during spring break.

This week, 52 elementary, middle and high school students from around Bloomington will see the results of their hard work as they produce, direct and perform their self-written plays. The event is a part of the 20th annual Mini-Play Festival sponsored by Bloomington Playwrights Project.

Fashion show highlights law's lighter side

The apparel merchandising and interior design students aren't the only ones who know what it means to dress to impress. Phi Alpha Delta collaborated with the Black Law Students Association in organizing the first Law School Fashion Show, which took place Saturday at Axis Nightclub. The show featured tons of great styles that were categorized into scenes such as "Business Casual," "After 5," "Holiday Gala," "Business Professional" and "Summer Chic/Garden Party/Golf and Tennis." Students from the Law School strutted enthusiastically down the runway flaunting each ensemble.

Bauder going strong after 10 years

Doug Bauder has been hard at work. As coordinator of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Student Support Services for the past 10 years, Bauder is always prepared to deal with national and local issues affecting students. A student in tears sought help from Bauder last week after the announcement of President George W. Bush's proposed constitutional amendment, which would define marriage as an institution between a man and a woman.

Greyhound bus rolls over on Utah desert highway GREEN RIVER, Utah -- A Greyhound bus rolled onto its side Tuesday on a desert stretch of Interstate 70, injuring 28 passengers and the driver and five seriously, authorities said. The bus driver told the Utah Highway Patrol he either blacked out or fell asleep.

EA Sports company brings games to IU

Sports are an integral part of the IU campus. The love of competition and the sweet taste of victory attracts thousands of students to all different types of sports. While the majority of students do not compete in Division I programs, the next best thing is becoming the next biggest craze on campus.
