Latest hurricane assault leaves Florida battered anew

HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla. -- Jeanne, Florida's fourth hurricane in six weeks, piled on destruction in already ravaged areas Sunday, slicing across the state with howling wind that rocketed debris from earlier storms and torrents of rain that turned streets into rivers. At least five people died in the storm, which was a cruel rerun for many still trying to recover from earlier hurricanes. Jeanne came ashore in the same area hit three weeks ago by Hurricane Frances and was headed for the Panhandle, where 70,000 homes and businesses remained without power because of Hurricane Ivan 10 days earlier.

Panel to discuss concerns regarding race

The City of Bloomington's Commission on the Status of Black Males and the Safe and Civil City Program are jointly holding a town meeting to discuss the topic of "Race, School Discipline, and Criminal Justice" next week. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street. The meeting will include presentations by panelists, followed by an opportunity for members of the community to address the panel.

Woman damages Nazi art

MIME program teaches students new media

In a culture where computer animated films like "Shrek" and "Finding Nemo" earn top spots at the box office, the demand for an education in new media has grown tremendously. Eight years ago, Professor Thom Gillespie decided to meet students' needs and created the master's in immersive mediated environments program, or MIME, through IU's Department of Telecommunications as a way for students to apply their innate creative talents to computer animation.
