Bursar to go paperless in the fall

When it's time for students to look at their fall bursar statements, they won't find them in their mailboxes. Instead, notifications will pop up in e-mail inboxes. Effective with July's bill, for students enrolled for fall 2005 semester, the Office of the Bursar will send tuition bills through QuikPAY, an electronic payment system. For the past two years, the system has offered an electronic statement history and printable bills, which can be saved for family records or sent with check payments to the processing center.

Bringing back the main act

With the Little 500 approaching its 55th year as the "World's Greatest College Weekend," students and administration are preparing for the race and, to some more importantly, the concert. This year, The Roots are joining the ranks of Nelly, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Jackson Five, Pat Boone, Petula Clark and Bob Hope, who all performed as main acts during past Little 500 concerts.

Local National Guard recruiting efforts draw war protesters

IU senior Brett Hershey is one of nine Indiana National Guard soldiers to have left the Hoosier heartland to serve the his country, only to return home as one of more than 1,500 soldiers who have died in the Middle East.

Steam pipe burst fills Teter with white smoke

A burst pipe filled Teter Quad's Boisen wing with thick steam about 10 p.m. Thursday evening. The broken pipe sent billowing steam dozens of feet into the air with an audible hiss. Students were forced to evacuate the Boisen wing of Teter and were not allowed back into their rooms as of press time.

The Road of Destiny

ST. LOUIS -- Rick Pitino and Roy Williams. Overachieving Michigan State and almost-undefeated Illinois. The Final Four teams will have to put on quite a show if they're going to match the excitement of possibly the best NCAA tournament ever. But these programs haven't had trouble entertaining thus far this tournament.

IU takes on the world's best

A large contingent of young IU talent have made a short drive to Indianapolis for the 2005 World Championship Trials with the hopes of adding a world title to their résumés. The competing Hoosiers will face the best swimmers in the world, including six-time gold medalist Michael Phelps.

Israelpalooza kicks off

A taste of Israel will spring alive at Dunn Meadow on Sunday afternoon during the third annual Israelpalooza. Students and Bloomington community members will be able to experience the spirit and culture of Israel by participating in a two-and-a-half mile walk around campus followed by an Israeli festival. While the festival's major goal is to raise money and awareness for Magen David Adom, the Israeli Red Cross, the festival is also aimed to raise awareness about the true nature of the country.

Women to face 2 ranked opponents

IU's women's tennis team might have a chance to experience the best of both worlds this weekend. The No. 36 Hoosiers will play host to No. 2 Northwestern at 4 p.m. Friday and No. 35 Wisconsin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts, weather permitting.

Hoosiers try to earn wins against Big Ten foes

For the past two weeks, the IU men's tennis team has had a buzzword: streak. Last week, the team concerned itself with ending its nine-year losing streak to Purdue. This week, the squad looks to maintain its four-match win streak as it takes a road trip to Northwestern and Wisconsin this Saturday and Sunday.

Hoosiers welcome Spartans to open Big Ten Season

The IU women's softball team saw it all this past Wednesday. After snapping the 11 game win streak of the University of Illinois-Chicago in the first game of a double header, the Hoosiers suffered their worst loss of the season in the second.

No. 9 IU plays at its pool for first, only time this season

The No. 9 IU women's water polo team has been ranked in the top 10 for the past four weeks. It has posted a 17-8 record and has been ranked no lower than No. 11, despite playing 13 of the top 20 teams in the nation. All of those games have been on the road.

Women's sprinters will be main source of points this weekend

The Hoosiers are a week behind. When weather rained on IU's parade at the Florida Relays, the Hoosiers lost a week of competition. IU hopes to rebound from the setback this afternoon and tomorrow when they host the annual Indiana Relays in one of only two regular season home meets.

IU to have its first outdoor home meet

IU will hold its first home meet of the outdoor track season this weekend, holding the second-ever Indiana Relays at the E.C. Billy Hayes Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The meet is one of three home meets for IU, one of which is the National Collegiate Athletics Association Regional at the end of May.

IU Golf Course ready for last tourney

The IU women's golf team is looking to improve its scores by taking advantage of the players' knowledge of the IU Golf Club's course this weekend. They play host to the 22nd Indiana Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

Steering the journalism ship

Yes, that's right. For everyone keeping score, we have a winner after two searches, hundreds of candidates and two sets of three finalists each. A very extensive search this was.

Hoosiers kick off Big Ten season

IU coach Bob Morgan wanted to add another game to the Hoosiers' schedule before entering the Big Ten season. The Hoosier players wanted to get some more innings and at-bats under their belts. This past week both of their wishes came true.

The rumbling of cyclists on a cinder track is not the only noise heard at Bill Armstrong Stadium right now. The IU men's soccer team plays at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Yeagley Field to kick off the two-time defending national champions' spring soccer season against Lindsay-Wilson, with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee against Bradley.

Year of parity should provide fast, close Women's race

There's been a continuing trend in the women's field ever since the Spring Series Events were instituted in 2000. That year, eight riders finished within ten seconds of the Individual Time Trials winner. The next year there were 27. In 2002, it was back down to nine, but in 2003, back up to 30. Last year, eight riders finished within the ten second window, and this year, the trend continued.

Riders fill out brackets in event not to be 'missed'
