Home sales rise 5.1 percent

WASHINGTON – Sales of previously occupied homes jumped unexpectedly in February by the largest amount in nearly six years as first-time buyers took advantage of deep discounts on foreclosures and other distressed properties.

Bernie Madoff, swindling thousands of investors out of $50 billion in the largest Ponzi scheme ever, is a poster child of our financial system. Vikram Pandit, former professor at the Kelley School of Business and current CEO of Citigroup, tried to buy a corporate jet just days after the banking giant received $45 billion in federal bailout funds.

New plan to save banks launches

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration launched a new effort Monday to end a paralysis in lending, saying it will team with investors with the goal of buying up to a trillion dollars of bad assets from banks that have been reluctant to make loans to consumers and companies.

Ball State stuns Tennessee 71-55

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Ball State stunned the two-time defending national champions Tennessee 71-55 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday night, snapping one of the more remarkable streaks in college basketball history.

Human Biology Program coffee hour meant to spark discussion

he human biology program, an interdisciplinary program in the College of Arts and Sciences, is attempting to make the University seem smaller by presenting a weekly coffee hour for students and faculty from all majors to get together and talk about an array of topics.

IU student gives voice to diversity during break

Instead of vacationing like many other students, freshman Christopher Bailey spent part of his break in Atlanta attending and speaking at this year’s 10th annual Linkage Summit on Leading Diversity conference from March 16 to 18.

Hoosiers place 10th in championships

In its final team meet of the season, the No. 13 IU women’s swimming and diving team placed 10th in this weekend’s NCAA Swim and Dive Championships at College Station, Texas.

Seniors Kim Roberson and Whitney Thomas deserved better. Last Monday, the NCAA selection committee turned its back on IU and offered Minnesota – the other Big Ten bubble team – an at-large bid to the Big Dance instead.

DEA looking for cash tossed on Calif. freeways

Federal drug agents plan to review video of a freeway chase in San Diego to identify motorists who haven’t turned over thousands of dollars in cash that fleeing suspects threw out of their truck.
