____simple_html_dom__voku__html_wrapper____>Indiana continued to enforce its “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” campaign during Labor Day weekend. The Indiana State Police were able to catch a number of impaired drivers with a sobriety checkpoint set up in Bloomington on South Walnut Street.ISP Sgt. Bradley Ayers said 103 cars were stopped at the checkpoint, which yielded four DUI arrests, six illegal consumption arrests, four traffic tickets and 16 warrants. The highest BAC recorded was .21.Ayers also said that he was not aware of any IU students among the arrests. The checkpoint served as the conclusion of a statewide crackdown on drunken driving funded by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.“We have the ability to reach out to about 250 law enforcement agencies across the state of Indiana,” said the institute’s executive director, T. Neil Moore. “We give them grants to help assist with efforts such as the drunk driving crackdown, and that’s what happened in Monroe County.”Labor Day has been Indiana’s most dangerous holiday weekend during the last five years, reaching a high of 11 fatalities in 2007, according to a press release from the institute.“It’s an extended weekend that celebrates the real end of summer for workers and students alike,” said James Noffsinger, Indiana’s state coordinator for Students Against Destructive Decisions.“Alcohol use becomes more prevalent because of the extra day to recover,” Noffsinger said.
