Archival photos of Willa's stay at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville lay upon the kitchen table in Jim and Jody's home. Willa stayed at Kosair after the initial removal of her tumor located on the part of the brain containing the brain stem and cerebellum. Having a tumor in this area can cause a loss of speech in addition to a loss of gross motor skills.

Having a brain tumor and having to endure chemotherapy and proton radiation to ultimately be healthy once again hindered and actually hurt Willa's learning process. Willa must relearn how to walk and talk now that she has undergone treatment.

Louisville residents James (Jim) Frankenberger, 47, and Jody Held, 46, walk through the Indiana University Proton Therapy Center in Bloomington, Ind. with their daughter Willa Rose Frankenberger, 19 months, after a proton treatment on March 7, 2012. Diagnosed with a brain tumor in July of 2011, Willa underwent chemotherapy treatments and then moved on to proton therapy at the IU Proton Therapy Center. Jim and Jody took Willa to therapy appointments at the center five days a week for six weeks in an attempt to ensure that the possibility of the tumor returning is highly unlikely.

The birth announcement of Willa Rose Frankenberger hangs upon the refrigerator in the home of Jim Frankenberger and Jody Held in Louisville, Ky. After being together for nearly thirty years, the couple had their first child on Aug. 10, 2010.
