Brownshoe; Rachael's Cafe

Tuesday, 8 PM

Since Brownshoe's debut album "Vanity" in 2007, this quartet of Californians have been making a steady progression into bolder and bolder sounds. "Vanity" specialized in long, melodic chords and humming vocals; it was a solid debut for a rising indie folk band. With their newest album, "The Gift Horse," Brownshoe is almost unrecognizable. Gone are the soft sounds and tentative vocals of "Vanity": "The Gift Horse" is an explosion of sound: power vocals, folk rock anthems. It's a treat to see how far these dashing performers have come; it'll be a treat to see them perform tomorrow night at the Bishop.
