John Davey; Bear's Place

Tuesday, 8:00 PM

There are several things that set John Davey apart from the rest of the spiritual youths with breathy, nascent vocals and an acoustic guitar. One of those things is that as of June 26, Davey has an album In a Whelming Tide to his name; another of those things is that Davey can actually play his guitar well, as opposed to slinging it to concerts and plucking a few chords for the girls in the crowd wearing saggy hipster hats. Davey styles an increasingly popular folk/pop mesh--the perfect thing for a young man to show his contemporary prowess while paying dutiful nostalgia for the innocent and now-bygone days. "Our Name Shall be Revenge" is an anthem for this melange, complete with melodic drone and passionate hums.
