Wye Oak's My Neighbour/My Creator features a lovely track "I Hope you Die" which gives the wrong impression of a fantastic passive-aggression. Were things that simple, Wye Oak, a couple which rides the line between cute and somber, wouldn't be performing venues with alternative rock stars Wilco, nor would they have a tidy four albums to their name. Wye Oak's sound blends the moaning melancholy with the moodily triumphant; when the eponymous line is delivered in "I Hope you Die," there's hardly any direction at a singular person, but rather a concentrated release of collected, complicated emotion that can no longer be stored. There's hardly anything simple about it. Come see them tonight at the Bishop!
