The 19th annual Lotus Festival has already hit Bloomington with Lotus Thursday and the performing artists Chris Smither and Ben Sollee. However Lotus kickoff starts tomorrow with fifteen performances from around the world, starting approximately 7 PM and ending around 11:30. To name a few, we have at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre Deolinda, a family of players with a sound that blends 200 years of Portuguese fado tradition and modern pop. Hanggai, a Chinese sextet whose sound Bloomington's Ryder described as 'Mongolian punk' will be sporting their amplified, electrified, and dramatized heritage at the Ivy Tech Community College Tent. The three Swedish lads Movits! have coined their punk-pop-Gypsy jazz-rap as Aeppelknyckarjazz (apple-stealing jazz) and will be impressing audiences at the IU Bloomington Tent.
