Hullo Bloomington! If you've passed by Walnut anytime since yesterday you've likely already seen the stage setup. We've hit official Lotus Festival Day One, but just in case you're missing the festivities tonight, there's no reason that you can't catch some of the action tomorrow. Starting fresh at 6:30, musicians Karan Casey and John Doyle along with the Valley Brothers will be bringing some Celtic lilt to the First United Methodist Church. I've heard some of their stuff before from their rousing group Solas, founded in 1994, whose rendition of the Gaelic Sadhbh ni Bhruinneallaigh is still on this hibernophile's Top 25 Most Played playlist. In the Ivy Tech Community College Tent, Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird will be entertaining audiences with "Yiddish punk-folk cabaret." I have no idea what this means but it sounds incredibly intriguing; come experience it for yourself at 8:45! And following this performance, why not dust yourself off with a bit of the traditional French-Canadian of Galant, tu perds ton temps at 10:30. Hike on back over to the First United Methodist Church and prepare yourself for this all-female vocal glory. Be sure to check out the official schedule here.
