Former Live Buzz editor Steven Arroyo has a foolproof way for finding out how popular an artist actually is in this post-industry music landscape, and through numerous Bell's Two Hearted Ale-fueled conversations, I agree with him. His theory is simple: Look at how many people "like" the band on Facebook. That's it. If we accept this to be an accurate measure of a musical act's popularity, then Bloomington is getting no bigger act this spring than Matt Nathanson, whose 238,613 likers surpass even the likes of the mighty Sublime With Rome. (Sorry, Union Board, the jokes will not stop anytime soon.)

Nathanson has seven studio albums to date, and his 2008 single "Come on Get Higher" went platinum in the U.S. He'll bring his folk/rock/country sound to the Bluebird stage on Sunday night, and if you have TiVo, then maybe don't worry about the Oscars until Monday morning so you can see the biggest star Bloomington will see this spring. If you don't believe me, check his Facebook.
