Scraggily-bearded men in tight pants and pale girls in leggings were out in packs last night at Uncle Fester's, where Pony Boy, The Coke Dares, Prizzy Prizzy Please and the Mathematicians played

a punk-themed show with dance rock elements from Prizzy and straight electronica from the Mathematicians.

My editor and I got there around 10:30 (after a yellow light-running, speed limit-breaking drive back to my apartment to get the camera I'd left), just as Pony Boy was finishing up their set, filling Fester's with a loud, indecipherable brand of rock. Though, from what I hear on their Web site, they can be a lot more mellow.

Next came The Coke Dares, who wore their trademark matching black shirts. Their set was marked by lots of clapping, not so much because of their awesome performance, though their corny lyrics and hyperactive stage persona won my admiration, but because each of their songs was about 30 seconds long, and (deserved) clapping followed each one.

Prizzy was up after The Coke Dares. I always enjoy the sound created by the contrast between Prizzy's hard and fast drumming and the smoothness of the saxophone. They were their usual energetic selves at Fester's, and got everyone dancing with "Campfire Girls Weekend Party."

Due to my editor's morning Japanese exam, we had to scram before the Mathematicians got onstage, but people were coming up to me all night to tell me how awesome the Mathematicians are, so I'm pretty sad I missed them. I love electronica.
