Sophomore infielder Sam Travis and freshman pitcher Evan Bell were named Big Ten player of the week and Co-Big Ten freshman of the week respectively, this afternoon.

Travis took home his third career Big Ten player of the week award after going 7-12 in IU's first three games of the year.

The Illinois native had a .706 on-base percentage and had a hit in each of the three games.

He also had a 1.167 slugging percentage and a 1.873 OPS. Travis had a home run and three doubles on the weekend. Travis has as many homers as every other Big Ten team so far this young season.

Bell received his first Big Ten freshman of the week honor after pitching four scoreless innings in IU's 2-0 win over then No. 4 Louisville. He contributed to the team's 1.09 ERA, which leads the conference.

In Bell's relief against Louisville, he allowed two hits while striking out two Cardinals. The 6-foot 7-inch Kansas native held opposing batters to a .154 batting average.

Travis and Bell will lead their team against Georgia Southern (2-1) this weekend, as the Hoosiers head south for their second series of the season.
