After a pair of wins in the past week and losses by four teams ranked ahead of them, IU rose to No. 3 in Monday's new Coaches and Associated Press polls.
Michigan rose to No. 1 in the AP poll, the second team to occupy that spot this season since IU began the year with the top rank. It is its first No. 1 ranking for UM since the "Fab Five" era more than 20 years ago.
The Wolverines will come to Assembly Hall on Saturday for a No. 1 vs. No. 3 matchup that will see ESPN's College Gameday on campus as well.
The Wolverines are not No. 1, however, in the Coaches Poll, as Kansas instead ascended to the top in that ranking.
Aside from IU and Michigan, three other Big Ten teams are ranked in the AP poll, including No. 11 Ohio State, No. 13 Michigan State and No. 23 Minnesota. The Spartans did not drop in the AP poll and in fact moved up two spots in the coaches poll to No. 9.
Butler, who defeated IU 88-86 on Dec. 15 in the Close the Gap Crossroads Classic, is No. 9 in the AP poll while other past IU foes Georgetown and Wisconsin are the first and third team left out of the polls, respectively.
