In every match that sophomore forward Eriq Zavaleta scores a first-half goal, the Hoosiers go on to win. The 2-0 win against Evansville on Oct. 24 pushes the Hoosiers' record to 7-0-0.
Saint Louis, Cincinnati, Clemson, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Butler and Evansville.
His 14 goals pace the Big Ten. And it's not even close. Northwestern freshman forward Joey Calistri is the conference's second-leading goal scorer with six.
Zavaleta has scored 0.88 goals per game. Calistri has scored 0.38. Each have played 16 games.
Of those 14 goals, five proved to be game-winning goals. (Scratch Saint Louis and Kentucky off the list in the second paragraph.) That's also good for best in the conference.
He's wholly eradicating my notion of a sophomore slump.
His impact transcends statistics, too.
