Only hours after Rashard Fant became IU's 12th commit, Indiana has picked up commitment No. 13.

Per Peegs.com, Fla. linebacker Clyde Newton committed to the Hoosiers Wednesday night, becoming the first at his position in IU's 2013 recruiting class.

A senior from Charlotte (Punta Gorda, Fla.) High School, Newton is the younger brother of former Hoosier Leonard Bryant. While he had a scholarship offer from IU, Iowa State was the only other school to give him a Division I offer.

In high school, however, Newton has showed versatility, playing on both sides of the ball as a running back and as a linebacker. He is expected to play as an outside linebacker while he is at IU.

His commitment to IU comes only two and a half weeks after his official visit for the Hoosiers' game against Ohio State. The game has proved the turning point in recruiting for the team, as they lost by only three points to the then No. 8 team in the nation.

Newton has become the third IU pledge since that weekend. He is also the second commitment from the state of Florida, joining running back Myles Graham as the other.
