Following Saturday night's fourth quarter performance against Ball State, IU quarterback Nate Sudfeld has been honored as the co-Big Ten freshman of the week by the conference.

Down 38-25 in the fourth quarter, IU Coach Kevin Wilson called Sudfeld into the game after starting quarterback Cam Coffman left with a hip pointer.

In his one-quarter effort, Sudfeld went 13-for-20 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He also led two scoring drives in the last five minutes of the game, encompassing 147 yards over a 1:09 span, to give the Hoosiers a 39-38 lead over the Cardinals.

Though the Hoosiers lost the game, Sudfeld's performance was impressive enough to be recognized as IU's first weekly conference honor in the 2012 season. He shared the weekly award with Penn State defensive end Deion Barnes.

Following last Saturday's game, Wilson said that Sudfeld will most likely return to backing up Coffman when the team faces Northwestern on Sept. 29. It was announced on Monday the game will kick off at Noon EST and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
