Redshirt senior goalkeeper Luis Soffner and sophomore forward Eriq Zavaleta earned Big Ten Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, the Big Ten office announced.
For the second time in as many weeks, Zavaleta earned the honor. The Westfield, Ind., native leads the Hoosiers with five goals. He leads the conference in shots, shots per game, points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals.
It is the fourth time in his career he has earned the honor.
The Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America tabbed him Player of the Week award last week as well.
Soffner and the Hoosiers have allowed one goal this season. It came in the 22nd minute of the 2012 season-opener against the Saint Louis University Billikens.
Zavaleta equalized 12 minutes later. It's the only time the Hoosiers have trailed this season. In 380 minutes, they've trailed .03 percent of game time.
Consequently, Soffner's goals against average is a sparkling 0.24. Northwestern's Tyler Miller stands second, posting a 0.57 average. The St. Louis native recorded 10 saves in four matches, giving him a .909 save percentage.
