IU's nine game losing streak is now history.

In front of a crowd of 41,882 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium, the Hoosiers edged in-state Football Championship Subdivision opponent Indiana State 24-17 in the 2012 season opener.

Sophomore quarterback Tre Roberson led the way for IU, completing 26 passes on 36 attempts for a career-high 280 yards and a touchdown pass. He also ran for 19 yards on the game, including a one-yard touchdown run that gave the Hoosiers a 24-10 lead over the Sycamores.

Though the Hoosiers had the lead in the fourth quarter, Indiana State made three drives into IU territory within the final 12 minutes of the game. The first resulted in sophomore Brian Williams' first career interception, while the second ended in an incompleted pass.

After the Sycamores got the ball to Indiana 36-yard line with two seconds remaining in the game, ISU quarterback Mike Perish threw a hail mary pass in hopes of tying the game. That pass was batted down by IU wide receiver Cody Latimer, and the Hoosiers came away with the victory.

Saturday's result puts the Hoosiers at 1-0 on the year, matching last season's win total.
