Athletic Director Fred Glass announced Thursday evening at IU Football Media Day several upgrades to Indiana's athletic facilities, including cell phone service capabilities that will make Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium "the most cellular friendly intercollegiate athletic facilities in the country."

In front of a group of media assembled at the Henke Hall of Champions, Glass announced the university will be making these cell phone reception improvements at no cost to the athletic department. In the past, it has been common to not receive cell phone service in a filled-to-capacity Assembly Hall or Memorial Stadium.

"It will be great for our kids and others who can text and find Junior and tell people where they can meet after the game," Glass said. "We're really excited about that."

Amongst the other investments made into IU's facilities include the addition of a $700,000 field turf practice football field and the anticipated completion of the Rod Iron project by replacing the fencing of the West side of Memorial Stadium.

"I believe it's really, really important that we not rest on our laurels, that we continue to show prospective student-athletes, student-athletes, coaching staff and fans that every year, we're going to make investments in our football program," Glass said. "I think that's the only way we can really get a program like Indiana's turned around"
