There are a couple quotes that did not make the preview story I want to make available to anyone who chooses to read this blog. And here they are ...
Freshman starter Kyle Hart gave his perspective on Halstead's kick-save that allowed the Hoosiers to maintain the lead on Sunday:
"That was a huge play," he said. "I thought it rolled further than it did. He was able to keep it in front of him. It was fortunate.
"He made a lot of good pitches. The hit before that was really unfortunate. For him to bear down and get that last out was huge for us."
Head coach Tracy Smith's take on his team's small ball execution against Penn State:
"I thought we did a good job of getting people in position to score or drive somebody in," he said. "We executed a couple hit-and-runs this weekend along with the sac bunts. I thought we did a pretty good job in that facet of the game as it relates to our situational hitting. I was very pleased with that."
Freshman left fielder Chris Sujka on the confidence gained from winning their first series in conference play:
"It gives a lot," he said. "We've struggled in one-run ball games for the majority of the year, so even the game we lost this weekend was a one-run game. To get a couple wins this weekend against a Big Ten opponent, as well as win a one-run game, gives (us) a lot of confidence that we can stay strong for nine innings"
