I felt like changing the title, so I did.

  • IU will play the Wildcats three games from now, on Feb. 15 in Bloomington. Here's what Northwestern was able to do to give them the win Thursday night:

  1. Mistake-free basketball. In a game with not much defense and equal rebounding, whoever was going to have the most possessions would come away with a W. The Wildcats committed just eight turnovers in a crucial home win.
  2. Stamina from a starting 6. While the Hoosiers struggle to find effective substitution rotations, NU coach Bill Carmody didn't need to do a whole lot of thinking with his lineup, playing just six players, all of whom played at least 28 minutes.
  3. The three-pointer. Wow, 31 of Northwestern's 51 field goals came from behind the arc. That would normally be discouraged, had the Wildcats not continued to make them. NU shot 45.2% from the three-point arc (14-of-31), with every player making at least two.
  4. Guard Drew Crawford and forward John Shurna were masterful.

Crawford's line: 7-of-15 from the field, 4-of-7 from three, 4 boards, 4 steals, 2 turnovers

Shurna's line: 9-of-13 from the field, 3-of-6 from three, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals
