Senior safety Jarrell Drane, who has suffered injury problems during his tenure at IU, will miss the final two games with the ankle injury suffered early in the year, IU Coach Kevin Wilson said.
Junior safety Alexander Webb broke his forearm during Saturday's game against Ohio State and will miss the final two games, Webb said on his Twitter account. Wilson confirmed the injury while speaking to the media Tuesday.
Webb didn't see any game action in either 2009 or 2010, but earned his first career start against Iowa Oct. 22. Webb led the team in tackles in that game with nine, and did it again against Ohio State with 11 tackles.
The Mequon, Wis. native also recorded his first career interception Saturday when Buckeye true freshman quarterback Braxton Miller threw into double coverage during the third quarter.
Injuries have been a problem all season for the IU safeties. Drane and fellow senior Chris Adkins have been sidelined for much of the season.
Less experienced players like Webb and true freshmen Drew Hardin, Forisse Hardin and Mark Murphy have seen significant time at safety this season. Senior Donnell Jones has been practicing and will be involved in the safety picture for the final two games as well, Wilson said.
True freshman wide receiver Cody Latimer sat out last week's game with a sport hernia and will likely miss the final two games, Wilson said. Although Latimer could possibly be able to play the final two games, Wilson said the staff wanted to be safe and keep Latimer out, so to not re-aggravate the injury.
