After career-firsts by diver sophomore Laura Ryan and swimmer freshman Justine Ress, the women's swimming and diving team (2-2) had split results in their dual-meet Friday against Michigan and Texas.
On Friday, the team went to Ann Arbor, Mich. and took down Michigan, 178-122, though they fell to Texas, 165-133.
The Hoosiers dominated both diving events, as Ryan won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions; the first time in her career she has won each event in the same meet. Ryan won comfortably in both events, taking the 3-meter event by nearly a 74-point margin and the 1-meter by 22 points. In addition to Ryan's successes, sophomore Kate Hillman earned second place in the 1-meter dive and sixth in the 3-meter dive, and senior Gabby Agostino returned to action for the first time this season, placing fourth in the 1-meter dive.
In the swimming competition, IU finished 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke race, as Ress won her first-ever collegiate race at a career-best time of 55.57, and freshman Cynthia Pammett and junior Taylor Wohrley finished second and third respectively. Senior Margaux Farrell continued her dominance in the pool as well, winning her second straight 100-yard freestyle race and taking part in the first place 400-yard freestyle relay team with Wohrley, senior Brittany Strumbel and sophomore Stephanie Armstrong.
The women now have three weeks off, and do not have another meet until November 18-19, when they will compete in State College, Penn. against Penn State and Virginia.
