The Big Ten announced Monday that Indiana junior goalkeeper Luis Soffner was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after his shutout efforts against the team's first regular season opponent, No. 12-ranked Notre Dame, Saturday.
Soffner and his No. 17-ranked teammates played the Fighting Irish to a 0-0 tie in South Bend last weekend. He faced 24 shots and made five saves in the tie. This is the second time Soffner has received the award for his goaltending efforts, the first coming in October of last season.
