Pregame
I'm here at Assembly Hall where, in about a half hour, the Hoosiers will try to break an 8-game losing streak against the visiting Wisconsin Badgers.
Coming into today's game IU is ranked 10th in the Big Ten in scoring, but guess who's last. That's right, Wisconsin.
However, the Badgers (12-10, 7-3) make up for their lack of scoring with defense. They rank third in the conference in points allowed, field goal percentage and on the boards. Wisconsin is coming off a 73-70 overtime loss against No.11 Michigan State.
To win, the Hoosiers will need to play the style of play they're comfortable with. Creating turnovers and turning them into easy transition buckets will be the key. If Wisconsin slows down the game into a half-court style, IU will struggle with their inferior size down low.
First Half
11:52 IU-11 Wisc.-13 The Hoosiers find themselves down but not out. A Wisconsin 3-point shot prior to the timeout puts them up by two, but 5 points from Hope Elam keep IU close in this one.
7:49 IU-17 Wisc.-19 The Badgers are not a traditionally good 3-point shooting team, but they're lighting up the nets from deep today. 4-for-8 from beyond the arc puts IU behind by two. The long range shots are coming at crucial times, just when it seemed the Hoosiers had taken momentum.
4:15 IU-24 Wisc.-25 A tough leaner by Jori Davis narrows the margin to one, but a hot-shooting Wisconsin team is getting open looks early and often. For IU to win they need to buckle down on D.
1:06 IU-25 Wisc.-36 The Badgers now have their largest lead of the game. Alyssa Karel in a rhythm now.
Halftime IU-25 Wisc.-39 Wisconsin is flat out on fire at this point. 8-of-12 shooting from 3-point range gives them a comfortable double-digit lead heading in the half. Alyssa Karel leads the Badgers with 15 points, off of 6-of-8 from the field.
Second Half
15:52 IU-30 Wisc.-48 The Wisconsin lead and the headaches have grown for Coach Felisha Legette-Jack and her team. The Badgers seemingly cannot be stopped on offense, shooting 50 percent from the field on the game.
11:29 IU-32 Wisc.-52 A bit of a spark has been lit for the Hoosiers in the form of Alisha Goodwin, her minutes off the bench have iwilled IU to a bit of a run here
7:50 IU-35 Wisc.-60 This one is pretty much in the books, these Hoosiers are still fighting hard, but its tough to watch them struggle.
6:15 IU-37 Wisc.-62 Good to see the fans still being supportive in this one. Wisconsin defense has been as good as advertised with the Hoosiers shooting 31.9 percent from the field in this one.
3:10 IU-42 Wisc.-66 Stop me if you've heard this one before-Jori Davis has basically become the Hoosiers only source of offense, she leads the team with 14 points.
1:25 IU-46 Wisc.-68 The Hoosiers stil showing fight in a losing battle, rolling the inbounds to preserve clock.
Final Score: IU-49 Wisc.-75
