IU offensive coordinator Brent Pease will return to Boise State to become the offensive coordinator there, a source with knowledge of the situation said Sunday night.
Pease, who served as the Broncos wide receivers coach last year, accepted the IU job only last week.
The source said Pease would have never accepted the IU job if he had known the Boise State opportunity would come open. The source also said Pease learned of the opportunity while in Bloomington and then returned to Boise to visit some family.
Pease was forced to make a decision about his future on Saturday, when he decided to return to the Broncos, according to the source.
The source said Pease had signed a contract with IU, but said he was not forced to make a payment when he backed out. IU coach Kevin Wilson was "a complete professional" in dealing with the matter, according to the source.
"He probably wasn't happy, but he understood," the source said.
Boise State coach Chris Peterson has been mentioned for the Stanford vacancy, but the source said Pease checked with Peterson before accepting the Boise State OC position.
