Some of the media met with IU coach Tom Crean this afternoon in to talk about Wednesday night's exhibition opener against Franklin (Ind.) College.
Here are a few of points that stood out:
INJURY UPDATE
- Junior guard Verdell Jones will not play in the exhibition due to a sprained ankle.
- Senior guard Jeremiah Rivers practiced today and will be in the game Wednesday. Crean did not know to what extent.
WHAT IS HE CONCERNCED THE MOST WITH?
- Toughness level
- Defensive level
- Rebounding level
EXPECTATIONS FOR FRESHMAN
- "Quality minutes if they get an opportunity to play. That's what it boils down to. I don't go in with a preconceived notion to play them a certain amount of minutes."
- Wants them to "go in and play with real hunger."
STARTING LINEUP?
- Has not set the starting lineup for the game against Franklin College.
- "I haven't even remotely thought about a starting lineup yet. It will have no future bearing on the future of our team moving forward."
CLOSED SCRIMMAGES BETWEEN DIVISION 1 TEAMS
- Said it is a good possibility in the future.
- The schedule - in particular the amount of home games - is a factor
- Crean: "There is no question I would like to do that at some point"
