The Hoosiers beat Towson 51-17 in Thursday night's opener. OK, that's old news.

The question is: What does it mean?

It's difficult to take too much from a game against an FCS team like Towson, but in my Friday column, is noted some lessons that could persist throughout the season.

Perhaps the most alarming thing from Thursday's game was IU's defense, or lack thereof. Yes, the Hoosiers only gave up 17 points, but the defense was pretty poor throughout. IU can't give up the big play against Big Ten opponents because, if it does, it will be out of the game before it even starts.

Bob Kravitz of The Indianapolis Star said the game meant absolutely nothing. He said we didn't learn anything about the Hoosiers or what they are about from their performance against Towson.

What are your thoughts? What did you take from the game?
