Benson adds another Big Ten player of the week award to her list of awards, three in her career to be exact. Also, for the third week in a row Benson won the tournament MVP award. We will see if she can continue that this weekend in Ohio.
Senior middle blocker Ashley Benson has been named one of the Big Ten's Co-Players of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday (Sept. 13). This marks the the third Big Ten weekly laurel of Benson's career. She shares the award this time with Minnesota outside Hitter Ashley Wittman. Benson won tournament Most Valuable Player honors for the third weekend in a row. She led the Hoosiers to four wins on the strength of her .629 hitting percentage and averages of 4.5 kills, 1.6 digs and 1.0 blocks per set.Benson's standout performance of the weekend was against Niagara (picked to win the MAAC), where she finished with 17 kills and an .889 hitting percentage. She also posted double-digit kill efforts against Robert Morris (11) and Colgate (14).
