Here's the schedule for this Saturday's qualification day at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Some highlights:
74 men's and women's teams will hit the track beginning at 8 am Saturday for their 4-lap attempt to qualify. Some highlights from the schedule:
- Last year, the men's and women's pole-winning qualifying attempts were secured early in the day by Phi Delta Theta (guys) and Teter (women). If either team wants a repeat, Phi Delta Theta runs at 11:50 a.m and Teter hits the track at 2:05 p.m.
- Three-time defending men's champion the Cutters qualify at 1:50 p.m., followed by another top independent team, the Black Key Bulls at 1:55 p.m..
- Last year, spurts of rain threatened the entire day - most notably rolling in during Team Cinzano's qualifying run (their cautious run in the rain left them out of the field). Currently, Saturday is forecast to be sunny with highs near 60.
- Teams get three qualifying attempts. If the team fails on its first qualifying try, they immediately try their second attempt. If the second attempt goes awry, the third attempt takes place at the end of the day, which creates for an exciting finish to the day if several teams are down to their third attempt.
