The IU men's tennis team earned its second win of the season away from Bloomington when it defeated No. 75 Cleveland State 6-1 in Orlando, FL on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers (7-3), who are in town for two scheduled matches today, decided to get an extra one in against the Vikings. While I do not know this for certain, IU coach Randy Bloemendaal probably picked up the match because Kentucky canceled its March 24 match with the Hoosiers.
Sophomore Jeremy Langer took over the No. 1 singles spot for IU and he didn't disappoint.
Langer dominated Cleveland State's Phil Orno, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Other singes winners for the Hoosiers included senior Lachlan Ferguson at No. 3 (4-6, 6-4, 7-6), freshman Josh MacTaggart at No. 4 (6-2, 7-5), freshman Isade Juneau at No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) and freshman Alex van Gils at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).
The Hoosiers also won all three doubles matches against Cleveland State, including an 8-1 victory for Langer and junior Santiago Gruter at No. 2. Gruter was the only IU player to drop a match on the day, falling at No. 2 singles 6-3, 3-6, 3-10.
