While everything in Bloomington has changed for the IU men's basketball team in the past three years, one thing has stayed the same.

Kelvin Sampson and 15 players have vacated, but the hate all IU students and fans have reserved especially for Purdue and anything West Lafayette hasn't gone anywhere.

IU coach Tom Crean -- and every player on his roster -- might not have been here very long, but the fire in fans was evident in the same sense that it has been for the better part of a century.

No one was spared on Thursday night.

Purdue guard Chris Kramer jawed with fans on his way out of Assembly Hall as they screamed obscenities, former Purdue coach Gene Keady was booed when he showed up at the south entrance of Assembly Hall and current Purdue leader Matt Painter was hit in the head by a piece of paper.

He was stunned by the event, swiping a hand through his hair to see if something was still there.

Fans had signs that said "I still hate Gene Keady." Others had screaming matches with Purdue fans.

And the game showed that the fire is also present on the court. Both teams competed back and forth, challenging each other for 40 minutes.

While these programs have taken totally different turns of late, it's nice to see what has made the rivalry -- genuine hate -- has not changed.
