Taking care of Harris
Jeremiah Rivers defended well for the game's entirety, and limited Manny Harris to only 2 first-half points. He would end the game with only 13 after tallying 35 buckets last season against the Hoosiers for Michigan's first win in Assembly Hall in 15 years. Rivers only had 4 points of his own, but he managed to come down with 9 rebounds.
Winning ways
IU moved to 7-6 on the season and officially charted more victories than it did in all of last season's 6-25 finish. IU also gained a win on its first try in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers struggled to find conference wins last year. They gained only one Big Ten win for the entire conference season.
Dumes
While he did not start at the shooting guard position, Devin Dumes came off the bench and offered IU some much-needed offense. But what he gave them on defensive end shone most, as IU kept the Michigan guards at bay in the first half. He scored 11 points, a total he has only surpassed once this season in a 12-point effort.
Jones
Down the stretch of IU's 71-65 win, Verdell Jones took the reins for his team. He scored 20 points in the game, several of which came in the game's final moments. When IU needed a basket, it was Jones who used his dribble-drive to give the Hoosiers separation.
Watford
Forward Christian Watford continued a strong freshman season with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. He allowed his ability to make it to the free-throw line and shoot at 80 percent a clip fuel his offense.
