The IU women's basketball team ended its non-conference slate on a high note with a 73-63 victory over Toledo.

The Hoosiers (8-4) recovered from a slow start at the beginning of the game and excelled on the defensive end, not allowing the Rockets (8-3) to get within 10 points of them once they stretched the lead to double-digits.

IU recieved a significant amount of contribution from its frontcourt. Junior forward Hope Elam led the team in scoring with 24 points, and sophomore forward Sasha Chaplin posted her second straight double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Jori Davis added 18 points.

Naama Shafir, Toledo's leading scorer on the season, once again led her team with 18 points, and Melissa Goodall added the second-highest total with 12.

The Rockets jumped to an early 12-4 lead before Chaplin scored eight of the Hoosiers' ten straight points to spring IU to a lead it would not relinquish.

Toledo would only score eight more points before halftime, and IU headed to the locker room with a 37-20 lead.

In the second half, the Hoosiers clamped on Toledo defensively, maintaining a lead of around 20 points and not allowing the Rockets to surpass 50 points until late when the game was out of reach.

IU now looks to the beginning of the Big Ten schedule with a Dec. 31 meeting with in-state rival Purdue (6-6) in West Lafayette.
