So IU finished its season 4-8 with a disappointing loss to Purdue. But at least one player is up for a post-season award. Senior safety Collin Taylor is a finalist for the College Football Rudy Award. Winners are selected by a panelist, but there's a fan vote included in the consideration. To vote for a player, here's a list of the nominees.
The winner, according to the Web site, will be named the Most Inspirational College Football Player and will receive his award personally from Rudy Ruettiger (inspiration for the movie Rudy) at a ceremony in Orlando, Fla.
Here's the "Inspirational Story" portion of Taylor's bio:
Despite receiving limited action at wide receiver through his first three-and-a-half seasons, Taylor was one of the hardest workers on the team and found his niche as a scout team player and on special teams. He served as a great example for his teammates when he accepted the coaching staff's challenge and moved to safety at the end of his fourth year in the program. Taylor worked hard and learned the new position, eventually earning his chance midway through the 2009 season. He started three games and made an immediate impact. A respected leader in the locker room, Taylor earned game captaincy for the Wisconsin game. Following the season he received the Al Barsch "Hang Tough" Award, given to the player who has hung tough and fought through adversity.
