Wear PINK on Friday for IU Volleyball's Breast Cancer Awareness Match

Oct. 14, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - IU Volleyball is encouraging Hoosier fans to wear pink Friday night when the Cream and Crimson take on Iowa inside Assembly Hall at 5:30 p.m. for the annual "Dig Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness match. The volleyball match is set to kick-start the evening's Hoosier Hysteria festivities. Admission is free but fans are encouraged to bring one canned food item with the proceeds benefitting the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

Message from head coach Sherry Dunbar will be posted shortly.

Both teams and coaching staffs will be donning their pink. "Dig Pink" is a Breast Cancer Awareness Rally being held all October to raise awareness and funds. Over 800 high schools and colleges across the country are participating in the event. Proceeds will go towards the fight against this terrible disease. "Dig Pink" is run by the Side-Out Foundation and has already raised over $130,000 towards their goal of $700,000 in this year's campaign. Following the volleyball match will be the basketball teams' first official practices and the remainder of Hoosier Hysteria.

"We have been fortunate to be a part of Hoosier Hysteria for the past two seasons and nothing was more exciting than playing in front of 9,000 Indiana fans last season defeating Ohio State in four sets," said Coach Dunbar. "It is such an awesome atmosphere and we hope that we can start the festivities out on the right note again this year when we play Iowa."

In addition to facing the Hawkeyes on Friday, the Hoosiers are also slated to take on the Badgers of Wisconsin in a 1 p.m. Sunday showdown. That match will be played at University Gym.
